The Queen’s Award for Enterprise & Innovation has been presented to Baxi for its Ecogen wall-hung micro-CHP dual-energy system. The award was presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, at the company’s site at Bamber Bridge near Preston. He said, ‘It [the award] is one of only 50 in the Innovation category that have been awarded this year.

‘The award is not given lightly. Only the highest level of innovation is recognised, and it is clear that you have all achieved this.’

He also stressed that the award is presented to the business rather than to an individual.

Chris Tyrer, manufacturing director at the site, told the assembled workforce, ‘The presentation of the Queen’s Award is a testament to the determination and dedication of everyone who has been involved with the Baxi Ecogen project, from its conception in 2006, and development right through to its production and subsequent industry-leading position in the marketplace.

‘It’s not always been easy — being a trailblazer seldom is. We’ve had to overcome problems and find solutions to situations that no-one had envisaged, simply because we were first!’
