Nu-way docks running costs at South Quay

Energy-efficient hot water for a luxury-apartment complex in London’s South Quay is provided by plant fired by six Nu-way fully modulating gas burners. The equipment was specified by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and the boilers were supplied by HRS Hevac. David Waterson, mechanical engineer with Tower Hamlets, says, ‘The aim of this project was to create luxury apartments from old buildings in the very sought after location of London’s South Quay. We needed an exceptional standard of equipment for all aspects of the renovation, and we felt that Nu-way could provide models incorporating advanced digital technology which offer higher efficiencies as well as low-level emissions.’ Nu-way says that using fully modulating burners, which are micro-processor controlled, reduces hysteresis and, therefore, increases fuel efficiency. Controlling burners can result in energy savings, and moving to more advanced digital systems can achieve typical savings of 3 to 8% on annual fuel costs. The modulating versions of the XGN series burners are on the Government’s Energy Technology List, so they qualify for Enhanced Capital Allowances.
