Shenton Group protects generators at RAF base

New protective canopies for generators at an RAF station were designed and installed by Shenton Group.

Shenton Group, which specialises in power generation and energy-support systems, has replaced five corroded generator canopies at Royal Air Force Valley with drop-over GRP enclosures that have been specially adapted with stainless-steel motorised louvres and exhausts. The canopies are in a very exposed location, and over the years the old canopies had corroded and needed replacing.

The site on the Isle of Anglesey is the RAF’s advanced tactics and training unit. The station is responsible for the advanced flying, tactics and weapons training for all the fast-jet pilots of the UK armed forces. The base is also home to C Flight, 22 Squadron of the RAF search and rescue organisation and the parent unit for the search and rescue training unit.

Shenton Group undertook a complete turnkey operation from initial design to installation. The project was carried out with strict adherence to RAF Valley’s stringent security and health and safety regulations.
