Heating-system performance is restored by water-treatment units

When maintenance costs for community heating and heating in sheltered accommodation operated by Aberdeen City Council Housing began to escalate and written complaints were being received from wardens, a condition survey of the affected heating systems was initiated. The survey revealed poor water quality, with high levels of particulates and sludge blocking inline strainers on manifolds to each resident’s room To address the problem, Integrated Energy Utilities installed an EnwaMatic water-treatment unit. These units provide continuous self-regulating water treatment and separate out dirt and air. The benefits are reduced service and maintenance costs and longer life for the heating system. Following a successful pilot installation, with significant improvement in water quality being maintained over a long period, over 50 EnwaMatic units have been installed cross the city. Ronald Ferguson, technical officer with Aberdeen City Council, says, ‘The improvements are real. Resident complaints and reactive maintenance related to problems with heating systems at our sites have reduced significantly after treatment.’
