Canary Wharf to develop riverside site

Canary Wharf Group has received planning permission for its highest quality site remaining on the River Thames. The Riverside South scheme will comprise nearly 300 000 m2 of office and retail development. Designed by the Richard Rogers Partnership, the scheme will include two office towers with 28 and 34 office floors. They will be linked by a 3-storey building in the centre of the site with enhanced-height floors to facilitate trading and other tenant requirements. There will also be a significant retail presence, with shops and restaurants lining the entire riverside frontage at lower ground floor level and opening on to a public walkway. George Iacobescu, chief executive of Canary Wharf Group, said, ‘This landmark development marks the beginning of the next generation of buildings for Canary Wharf, and we are looking forward to continuing our excellent relationship with Lord Rogers and his team in developing this stunning riverside location.’
