Guidance on evaporative cooling

The capabilities of evaporative cooling as an alternative or supplement to mechanical cooling is discussed in a document prepared by the Humidity Group of the HEVAC Association. It gives an overview of evaporative cooling and how it can be incorporated into cooling systems, a comparison of mechanical and evaporative cooling, descriptions of the different types of products available and outlines typical applications of the technique.

Cedric Sloan. director general at FETA, comments, ‘The potential of cold-water humidifiers to deliver low-energy and low-cost cooling is enormous. 1 kW of electricity supplied to a cold-water humidifier can potentially deliver up to 700 kW of evaporative cooling to an atmosphere.’
