VES adds heat recovery to swimming-pool air-handling systems

Adding heat recovery to air handling for the swimming pools in Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre is this AHU installed by VES.

VES has significantly improved the efficiency of the air-handling system for the swimming facilities at Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre by installing a single unit with heat recovery to replace two separate units. The previous system used separate air-handling units for the learner and main pool. The work was phased to ensure constant supply to the swimming pools, so they could remain in operation and not impact on revenue.

The original swimming-pool AHUs were in a high-level plant room with separate extract systems at basement level exhausting to the atmosphere — wasting a significant amount of energy. To avoid this waste, VES installed a single unit with heat recuperation to supply both areas and reduce operating costs. Localised heaters enable the separate areas to maintain individual temperature control.

An internal riser was modified so new ductwork could be installed from the pool to the high-level plant room. Components from the existing system were re-used where possible to reduce installation costs.
