Water treatment

BSRIA, water treatment

BSRIA has published new guidance on ‘Water treatment for building services systems’ to replace guidance published 20 years ago. The treatment of water in heating and cooling systems is essential to avoid micro-biological fouling, corrosion and scale. These problems can result in energy wastage, poor system performance and the early replacement of plant and components.

The guide is intended for use by design engineers, installing contractors and maintenance staff responsible for looking after completed systems. It will help facilities managers and others discuss the most appropriate water-treatment programme with water-treatment specialists.

The guide covers system design; installation, testing and pre-commission cleaning; application of a correct and appropriate water-treatment programme; and effective management of the programme.
