Award-winning external wall insulation system for public buildings

multi-faith centre
New public buildings are increasingly being constructed using external wall-insulation systems, which is one of the fastest growing building techniques in the UK — according to the Insulated Render & Cladding Association. The concept is promoted by the Andy Swann Awards, which for the first time in 2005 include a category for public buildings. The winning building was the Multi-Faith Centre at the University of Derby, which houses seven main faiths. The architects SPE Architecture achieved sweeping curves and minimalist straight lines by using PermaRock mineral-fibre and lamella insulated render systems, including 80 mm of insulation for a U-value of 0.35 W/m2K. The system designer was PermaRock Products.
