Bespoke control system for major library refurbishment in Hull

Information from the DALI lighting control system in this library at the University of Hull helps control fans and water solenoids in toilets.

CP Northern has supplied a bespoke control system to control lighting, ventilation fans and water solenoids for the refurbished Brynmor Jones Library at the University of Hull. This library houses over a million books, as well as other paper and digital resources. The multi-million refurbishment by BAM Construction North East has created a flexible, technology-enabled facility with new facades and upgraded M&E services.

The building comprises two towers, and the backbone of the control system runs up and down one tower before ascending the other. The system makes extensive use of DALI-based control for new light fittings and some existing fittings. There are also interfaces to the BMS to activate fans and water solenoids in toilets.

The system is monitored and controlled through a head-end PC, which also provides testing and monitoring of emergency lighting.
