Tesco embarks on worldwide energy-saving campaign

Tesco has awarded a worldwide contract to Elster EnergyICT to implement a cost-saving energy-management solution across its retail and distribution estate. The retail chain has selected Elster’s Enacto 9.3 energy-monitoring and management platform to identify hidden patterns in consumption to help improve business performance and save cost by reducing energy use.

The cloud-based Enacto platform will form part of Tesco’s focus to reduce energy waste. It provides multiple users with energy data from different devices. Its reporting capabilities will enable Tesco and its partners to present energy data analytics at all levels of the organisation.

James Pitcher, head of energy and environment with Tesco, said, ‘We have set the target of being a zero-carbon business by 2050, and we are continually pushing ourselves to find innovative ways to make our stores as efficient as possible. Elster EnergyICT’s energy-management solutions will play an essential role in helping us to achieve these goals by enabling our employees to visualise, manage and identify opportunities for energy saving across our stores and quantify any savings made.’
