The CHP unit at Bracknell Leisure Centre is being replaced with a new unit.

Dalkia is continuing its 18-year relationship with Bracknell Forest Council with the supply of new CHP units for Bracknell Leisure Centre and Bracknell Coral Reef. In a £265 000 contract. Cogenco, Dalkia’s small-scale CHP division, is to replace existing plant with new 135 kW(e) CHP units are each side. Annual CO2 savings over conventional electricity supply from the grid will be 430 t.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2014.

Giles Vidgeon of Cogenco explains, ‘We will schedule a shutdown of the CHP unit to be replaced. Then the heating demand will be met by existing boiler plant, with electricity supplied from the grid. We will then strip out and replace the old CHP units.’

Cogenco will then provide long-term operation and maintenance of the units, with full monitoring from its base in Horsham.

Leisure centres are a key application for CHP as there is a constant demand for electricity and heating. There is a particularly high demand for heat at leisure centres because of heated swimming pools and showers.
