College demonstrates small-scale transpired solar collector
Just 55 m2 of SolarWall transpired solar collector on the Energy Centre at South Devon College will deliver annual heating savings of over 15 MWH and 3 t of CO2. This installation by CA Group works by preheating outside air before it passes to the building’s heating and ventilation system.
The Energy Centre acts as a regional hub to help economic recovery in Torbay and further afield by providing training, advice and information about green and sustainable-energy practices.
Other SolarWall installations in the UK include projects for Jaguar Land Rover, the Royal Mail and Marks & Spencer, whose facility at Castle Donington has the world’s largest example at 4500 m2. It is expected to reduce the heating requirement by about 30% generating well over 1 GWh a year and saving over 256 t of CO2 a year.
