Micronics flowmeter tests CHP systems
A Micronics portable flowmeter has been used to prove the efficiency of CHP systems and identify by Low Carbon Solutions. Adrian Frise, technical director with Low Carbon Solutions, says of the Portaflow 220A unit, ‘The Portaflow unit has been used successfully on a number of occasions and for several purposes.’
One important application has been to use the Portaflow unit as a reliable independent instrument to prove generated heat-output figures from CHP units to clients.
One occasion was when it was suspected that there was a problem with the flow of coolant through the cooling system. The Portaflow unit helped the diagnostic process so that the fault could be located.
The instrument is also used for detecting other low-flow situations in CHP heating circuits.
The Portaflow 220 portable flowmeter uses clamp-on transducers and ultra-sonic techniques to enable the flow of a liquid in a closed pipe to be measured accurately without needing to insert any mechanical parts through the pipe wall or protrude into the flow system. It can be used with a wide range of pipe sizes, materials and fluid temperatures.
