Monastery restoration features Remeha boilers

The refurbishment of several buildings of the 13th-century Hexham Abbey in Northumberland into a heritage centre included the installation of three Remeha Quinta Pro 90 gas-fired condensing boilers. They are on a free-standing, in-line cascade system with low-loss header to provide heating throughout the refurbished buildings.

The refurbished buildings are the Priory buildings, Carnaby Building and the former Tynedale Magistrates’ Court. The project re-unites the medieval monastic complex for the first time in 500 years. The new centre provides a permanent exhibition to interpret the history of Hexham Abbey, as well as public spaces that include community meeting rooms and facilities for conferences, functions and weddings.

Space in the plant room was limited, and there was a tight deadline. The delivery of the boilers to site in a quality-controlled pre-assembled wheeled unit addressed these issues.

Architect for the project was Purcell Miller Tritton. M&E consultant was TGA Consulting Engineers of Durham. M&E contractor was the Newcastle office of Vaughan Engineering.
