Light-cancellation reduces false alarms from smoke detector

FFE, Fireray, smoke detector

FFE has been awarded a UK patent for its light-cancellation technology used with its Fireray range of infra-red beam smoke detectors to reduce false alarms and false readings. Ambient light levels on the detector are monitored and subtracted from the signal, enabling the detector to work under difficult conditions — including sunlight, sodium lamps and fluorescent lighting.

By using infra-red beams, Fireray beam detectors can identify smoke over much larger areas than traditional fire detectors, making them well suited for large indoor spaces.
