Office lighting for older people

This visual depicts current research from Thorn Lighting into office lighting for older people. Ideas include aspects of ambient task and atmospheric lighting.

Following recent research reporting that the number of office workers employed past retirement age is set to double within a decade, Thorn Lighting has sponsored a study into how lighting could help make the workplace a better and healthier setting for the aging worker. The study recommends that the lit office environment could be enhanced by focusing on several inclusive design principles. • Increasing the spectrum of light provided for added visual and non-visual functionality. • Varying light qualities through daily programmes to create an emotional and psychological link between our bodies and the time of day. • Providing end users with intuitive control over their own lighting, allowing office workers to meet their individual ergonomic needs.
