Taking a weight off your mind

Kingspan Insulation, Duckwork, preinsulated ductwork, pre-insulated ductwork

A report from Kingspan Insulation shows that pre-insulated ductwork fabricated from its KoolDuct System can achieve a weight saving of up to 75% compared to traditional ductwork systems. That reduction in weight offers the potential for significant savings in time and costs. The report concentrates on cooling and dual-purpose ductwork that is commonly used in the uK.

The light weight of this ductwork can help overcome constraints on structural loading, particularly in retrofit installations, without the need for costly secondary supports.

The material’s hazard potential is much lower than heavier alternatives, helping to streamline risk assessments and minimise safety strategies and protection measures.

Performance data indicates that KoolDuct panels with an insulation thickness of 30 mm have a similar thermal efficiency to galvanised sheet-steel ductwork with 50 mm of mineral-fibre lagging.

The saving is further enhanced by the thin aluminium facing and lightweight coupling for the KoolDuct system. A KoolDuct installation is said to be 72% lighter than traditional ductwork with a 4-bolt flange coupling and 75% lighter with an aluminium grip flange coupling.
