Remeha boiler halves fuel consumption at cider distillery

Julian Temperley has halved the energy cost of pasturing apple juice at his farm with the installation of a Remeha boiler using LPG.

When the aging atmospheric boiler and heat exchanger at a distillery in Somerset started to fail, the owner of Burrow Hill Farm, Julian Temperley, installed a Remeha Quinta Pro 30 LPG boiler to halve fuel consumption. It is used for pasteurising the farm’s apple juice and in the fermentation of the company’s award-winning Burrow Hill Cider. The farm also distils its cider into Somerset Cider Brandy.

Pasteurising the apple juice by passing it through a heat exchanger before it is bottled avoids the use of artificial products and concentrate.

Downtime was kept to a minimum during the changeover, and Mr Temperley is delighted that the new boiler is working so efficiently.

Gary Turner of contractor GT Building Services recommended the Quinta Pro 30 for its high efficiency and ease of installation — and because it could be converted to run on LPG since mains gas was not available for this rural farm.
