LED lighting replaces SON at service station

LED lighting that replaces SON (high-pressure sodium) lighting at a service station in Leigh-on-Sea will pay for itself in 10 months, including installation, and deliver better-quality lighting. Belgrave service station is operated by Highway Stops Retail, which was concerned about lighting levels being too low and the light being rather orange.

Lighting is now provided by Energys Groups New Vision LED lamps, designed for replacing legacy metal-halide and SON lamps.

Energys carried out a site survey and risk assessment in advance to demonstrate the quality of the products and identify potential savings and payback period.

Tony Head, development director with Highway Stops, said, ‘I am delighted by the impact that the new lighting has had at Belgrave, and I hope it will be possible to go completely LED across all [eight] of our service stations.’
