Preventing condensation on optical-break smoke detectors

Fire Fighting Enterprises, optical break smoke detector, condensation

To prevent condensation forming on the detector lenses and reflective prisms of its Fireray optical-beam smoke detectors, Fire Fighting Enterprises has developed a range of heaters to circulate warm air over the lens. Condensation has a similar effect to smoke and can cause false alarms.

The detector heater circulates warm air over the lens to raise its temperature by up to 10 K higher than the surrounding air, dramatically reducing the likelihood of condensation forming on the lens.

The prism heater is a very slim heating pad that is fixed behind the mounting place to maintain the temperature of the prism above that of the surrounding air. These heaters could also be used on detectors and prisms in cold-storage areas. Heaters are available for the Fireray 3000, 5000 and 50R/100R ranges of smoke detectors.
