Smoke control in apartment escape routes

Conor Logan, Colt’s technical manager and chairman of the Smoke Control Association will present a webinar to cover the guidance and the latest important revision by the Smoke Control Association (revision 2) to its ‘Guidance on smoke control to common escape routes in apartment buildings (flats and maisonettes)’, which is currently available at the link below.

This new revision generally follows the outline of the forthcoming ‘BS 9991 : Fire safety in the design, management and use of residential buildings — code of practice’ which is to be published in January 2016.

For the first time the maximum extended travel distance is limited to 30 m, as measured from the stair, not from a protected lobby door. This will have a significant impact on the layout of such buildings. This is one of many changes to the guidance.
