Mike Nankivell retires

Mike Nankivell, space Airconditioning, Spaceair, FETA. ACRIB

After some 45 years in the HVAC industry, the last 16 of which have been with Daikin distributor Space Air, Mike Nankivell has announced his retirement at the end of 2015. One of the principal reasons is to avoid the substantial daily journey from his home in Kent to Guildford on medical advice.

He explains, ‘I have spent pretty much the last 30 years commuting part way round the M25 from Kent into Surrey and beyond. Typically this can add up to four hours to my working day — and frequently considerably longer.

‘Unfortunately I have also been advised that is aggravating a long-standing back condition. This could no longer continue, and given that I do not intend to seek alternative full-time employment at this stage in my long career, the logical conclusion was retirement.

He will continue to retain some industry involvement and has offered to continue as president of the Heat Pump Association and to be involved with ACRIB (Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Industry Board) for as long as this is practicable. He will also undertake occasional projects for Space Air.

He was marketing and business-development director with Space Air since 2009. He was also with Carrier Air Conditioning for over 13 years, rising to the position of UK marketing manager. He is also immediate part president of HEVAC.

One thing he is avoiding is joining daily rush-hour traffic.
