Distech brings BMS control to school

Harting Church of England Primary School now has a building-management system. The Eclypse IP-based system from Distech controls the existing plant and is expandable to allow for alterations and additions to the plant. It will also be able to integrate with any future BMS if it is upgraded or changed.

The Eclypse system was installed by Advanced Electrical Contractors. It is a modular and scalable platform providing BACnet/IP, wired and wireless IP connectivity that permits integration with building-management systems and convergence with IT networks.

The installation at this school controls several boilers and heating circuits with variable flow temperatures. The main challenge facing Advanced Electronics was that an ‘off-the-shelf’ controller was not an option; it had to have a bespoke control strategy.

With an eye to the future, the controller will be able to have direct BACnet communication with inverter-controlled pumps when existing pumps need to be replaced.

The system controls the plant via a basic interface constructed using the Eclypse’s built-in Envision software. Advanced Electrical was able to give external access via the web to the Eclypse, and BACnet enables the system to be monitored remotely via NiagaraAX.
