Mita bespoke trunking serves new student accommodation

Mita
Supplied as a bespoke solution for new student accommodation at Lancaster University was 12 km of Mita’s Cableline Solo trunking.
All low-voltage electrical services throughout 20 new accommodation buildings at Lancaster University is housed and protected by about 12 km of Mita’s Cableline Solo dado trunking. This £120 million project was designed by Michael Hyde Associates. An important requirement specified by LJ Monks Building Services was for the trunking to be supplied in 1.8 m lengths. These were factory pre-sized with socket-mounting boxes at 300 and 500 mm intervals produced by Mita and supplied through the local branch of wholesaler Edmundsons Electrical. This bespoke manufacture enabled faster installation times to be achieved. The modular buildings will enable the university to replace 2000 old rooms with en-suite accommodation and add 2272 to the total room stock. Solo trunking provides three compartments to carry power and Cat 5e data cables to each bedroom and kitchen/diner. Consort single-compartment dado-level trunking has been used in kitchens, with Solo for wiring systems for lighting and fire alarms.
