Danfoss valves assemblies bring benefits to biomass district heating

Danfoss, district heating, valves, commissioning, flushing

The Hero flushing bypass manifold solution developed by Danfoss has save significant man hours during the installation of a biomass district-heating scheme by Flogas Britain at an independent co-educational school in Dorset. Two biomass boilers and multiple oil-fired boilers as backup have replaced the old fuel-oil and LPG heating system on a number of circuits to serve the main campus and reduce heating costs and improve security of supply.

A total of 37 Hero units are installed in satellite plant rooms across the campus to provide optimal balance and control in the heat network. As well as ensuring balance in all load conditions, Hero simplifies system flushing to the BSRIA BG29/2012 guidance and allows water flow to be measured so as to detect problems such as blockages in the system.

Supplied pre-assembled and fully pressure tested, Hero units consist of a bypass H piece, pressure-independent control valve (PICV), shut-off valves, strainer with integrated drain and a measuring station.

Units for this project are configured with Danfoss ECL 110 electronic controllers set up to monitor temperatures on the demand side and change flow rates on the supply side to suit.

The project qualifies for the Renewable Heat Incentive.
