Panasonic air-conditioning solution transforms Dublin Warehouse

Panasonic, air conditioning, heat recovery ventilation

Energy-efficient cooling for the conversion to offices of a 19th-century warehouse at Grand Canal Quay in Dublin was achieved with minimal changes to the fabric of the building with fresh air delivered using energy-recovery ventilation (ERV) units in the roof space. FKM Group selected Panasonic’s 3-pipe ECOi MF2 air-conditioning solution to be installed by Crystal Air.

The project for online fashion brand Zalando resulted in Crystal Air obtaining the ‘Special recognition’ award in Panasonic’s PRO Awards.

These ERV units offer a compact space-saving design and low noise levels. The upper chamber of the two compartments contains the heat exchanger and the lower chamber the compressors. The system allows for non-stop operation during maintenance.

Ducted units have sufficient fan power to drive warm air from the roof of the warehouse to the floor, with minimum noise.

77% of the heat in the outgoing air is recovered, with the air-conditioning load being reduced by about 20%.

During the summer, the system allows for a purge during the night to achieve a fresh start to the day. The number of ERVs running at any one time can be controlled depending on the number of occupants.

Other features of the installation include a centralised controller acting as a master scheduler to provide full management of the entire space Each area has detectors to reduce energy consumption when rooms are not occupied. User-friendly remote controls give individuals the option to instantly adapt settings to suit.
