Production boost for flexible piping

To help meet the growing demand for polybutene pipe, Basell, a member of the Polybutene Piping Systems Association, has opened the world’s largest polybutene-1 plant in The Netherlands. With a capacity of 45 000 t a year, it uses state-of-the-art technology to produce PB-1 to offer a wide range of higher-quality products. Anton de Vries, president of Basell research and development, says, ‘It will allow us to explore new possibilities so that we can meet the growing demand for PB-1, which is fast becoming the preferred material of choice for flexible piping systems.’ Market leaders in this sector include Basell, Georg Fischer Building Technology, Hepworth Building Products, Polypipe Building Products and Wavin Plastics. UK projects that have used PB-1 piping systems include the Royal Albert Hall and Canary Wharf’s Winter Gardens.
