Consultant appointed for Royal Albert Hall

King Shaw Associates has been appointed building-services consultant by the Royal Albert Hall to implement recommendations made in a feasibility study in 2005. This bath-based practice is working with the team responsible for the operation of the building to further rationalise and improve the building-services installations for the benefits of audiences and visitors. At the same time, managers have made a long-term commitment to reduce environmental impact by delivering year-on-year reductions in energy consumption. Doug King, principal of KSA, says, ‘Initially we are focusing on improvements to the existing heating, cooling and ventilation systems. However, the impact of these works could have far-reaching consequences on the remainder of the building-services infrastructure, so we have to take a holistic view of the whole building function. A number of refurbishment projects are planned in the coming years to improve the bars, restaurants and function rooms. KSA will work with architects Donald Insall & Associates to design the building-services for these projects and lay the foundations for a long-term building-services replacement strategy.
