Energy-efficiency boost for AA headquarters

AA
Energy efficiency at the AA’s headquarters in Basingstoke has been improved following the replacement of air-handling plant on each of the 16 storeys.
Air-handling units on each floor of the 16-storey AA headquarters in Basingstoke have been replaced by Specialist Site Services with new units from VES. The original AHUs on each floor provided heating and cooling, with fresh air bled from a central-station air handler in a roof-top plantroom. The building was constructed in the early 1970s. Specialist Site Services was awarded the contract by Mala Engineering Services to remove the original air-handling units and replace them. Attenuators were also designed and installed and the roof-top AHU for supplying and extracting air replaced. Work was carried out floor by floor, with the building remaining fully occupied at all times. The project has reduced energy consumption through the use of modern high-efficiency fans and motors and the lower resistance of clean filters and coils.
