Industry moves to boost building-services course

CIBSE’s north east region and Northumbria University have started a scheme for companies to sponsor students enrolling for the honours degree in building-services engineer. The scheme will assist students by paying their tuition fees — currently £1150 a year. Brent Hunter, chairman of CIBSE North East, says, ‘The decline in the numbers of building-services students is a long-term problem. In the short term, this new scheme will provide a real incentive for prospective students to consider choosing building services as their career. Employment prospects are very bright, and we are determined to do what we can to ensure that building-services courses continue at Northumbria University.’ Benefits for companies that contribute towards this scheme include preferential access to work-placement students and graduates via company open days, individual company presentations and graduate interviews. brent.hunter@cibsenortheast.com
