Isle of Skye exploits ground-source heat pumps

Stiebel Eltron heat pumps extracting heat from the ground are to provide heating for houses on the Isle of Skye.
Stiebel Eltron has won a contract to supply heat pumps for 41 houses on the Isle of Skye. They will extract heat from the ground. Ice Scotland, an approved heat-pump installer for Applied Energy, which distributes Stiebel Eltron heat pumps, is responsible for the ground works for the geothermal thermal collectors. The system is expected to be 50% cheaper to run than oil-fired boilers, the only other local fuel alternative — as well as substantially reducing carbon emissions.
