Keston boilers meet educational challenge

Keston
Savings in installation time and space requirements for these Keston boilers installed at Eastbourne College were achieved by supplying them in a bespoke rig.
Keston Boilers has supplied two SEDBUK A rated high-efficiency C55 boilers for the new £34 million Nugent House annexe of Eastbourne College. For speed of installation, the boilers were built into a bespoke floor-standing rig. Savings in installation costs were also made possible by the small-diameter flue system, which can run up to 45 m vertically or horizontally. The boilers were specified by the project manager of Eastbourne College, Mike Brett, and installed by R. A. Green Mechanical Services of Crowborough. C55 boilers have an output of 14 to 55 kW and comprise a corrosion-resistant stainless-steel heat exchanger with a low-emission burner. They achieve very high efficiency in condensing mode. These boilers are room sealed, so they do not require a dedicated boiler room with ventilation for combustion air, an important consideration for this project, where space was limited. Other features include output modulation, integral shunt pumps with automatic speed control, and integral weather compensation and frost protection. The 5-storey Nugent House accommodates 42 girls. It also includes a self-contained flat and surgery for the matron, a common room and dance studio, complete with changing facilities, for use by all members of the college.
