Argent takes UK practice to Azerbaijan

Argent FM has increased its horizons with refurbishment work of premises leased by the British Council in Baku, Azerbaijan. The comprehensive refurbishment has brought the electrical and mechanical services up to UK standards. To carry out the work, Argent had to overcome several difficulties, including the problem of local procurement. Eventually, all materials and tools were sourced in the UK and shipped out, along with the team of M&E engineers working on the site. So as not to interfere with the business of the council, all works were carried out overnight for the 3-month contract. Work included replacing the old boiler with a new energy-efficient gas-fired condensing boiler, overhauling the main chiller, cleaning and servicing the air-handling unit and completely replacing the electrical installation from incoming supply to new, energy-saving lighting. As the power supply in Baku is erratic and subject to daily outages, the standby generator was also overhauled and a new changeover panel installed to enable automatic start on power failure. All works were recorded in M&E manuals, which the client has set as the standard for all future works in its buildings worldwide. The British Council has been in Azerbaijan for 12 years, introducing the best the UK has to offer, providing library, teaching and cultural facilities and building lasting relationships.
