The operation and control of existing plant in the headquarters of Vernon Building Society in Stockport have been much improved following the installation of Honeywell Excel Web controls by Zalti Control Systems. The Excel Web controller is connected to the society’s existing network to give BMS-style control of the HVAC system from any PC using a standard web browser. Michael Hanson, chief executive of the society, says, ‘We are very pleased with the system. It is effective and very easy to operate, while solving many problems. 25 Excel 10 fan-coil controllers were also installed, and distributed I/O provides the flexibility to pick up remote primary plant. Robin Minton of Zalti explains, ‘The stand-alone control system that existed was fragmented, in poor condition and from various manufacturers. Now the society has a fully integrated building-management system. Excel Web controllers can be installed in the society’s remote offices and easily added to the local network, allowing head office to monitor and adjust branch settings remotely. ‘We chose Honeywell Excel Web as it offers the latest web controller technology, with LonWorks and BACnet interfaces, and could be connected easily and seamlessly with existing plant.
