New lighting designed and instilled by Parkersell for Blue Diamond Engineering has reduced both running and maintenance costs.
Both maintenance and running costs of lighting at Blue Diamond Engineering in County Durham have been reduced following the installation of a new lighting system by Parkersell. The project qualified for a Action Energy Loan from the Carbon Trust; this scheme is targeted at SMEs in England and Wales and offers interest-free loans that are repayable over a negotiable period. The original 8 ft 100 W fluorescent lamps have been replaced with 5 ft 58 W high-frequency fittings with triphosphor colour 840 Reflex lamps. The old fittings were 20% less efficient than the new luminaires. The old lamps are also bulky and difficult to store and have relatively high mercury content. Parkersell handled the complete project, from design and managing the refurbishment to removing the original fittings under the WEEE Directive. The installation covers 120 units of workshop area. ‘We are delighted with the result,’ says Brian Southern, health and safety manager of Blue Diamond Engineering. ‘Parkersell has enabled us to reduce our energy input and save considerably on maintenance and running costs whilst providing an atmosphere that is bright and engaging to illuminate all areas for employees to work in.’
