JS Humidifiers assist in high-tech manufacturing

Gas-fired humidifiers supplied to Gurit on the Isle of Wight give close control of relative humidity to help cure specialised urethane coatings on composite materials.
JS Humidifiers has supplied two Neptronic SKG gas-fired humidifiers to a manufacturer of composite materials on the Isle of Wight. These materials are made by Gurit and used in the production of high-end vehicles such as Formula 1 cars, the Airbus 380, as well as wind turbines. The humidifiers assist in the curing process in the paint spay booths. The humidifiers supply up to 470 kg/h of steam to the booths to maintain at least 50% RH. Urethane coatings need to be moisture cured to obtain optimum adhesion to the surface. Once sprayed, these coatings react with moisture in the air, allowing them to cool. These units have a wide modulation range, and a single unit can produce 8.7 to 400 kg/h of steam, with relative humidity controlled to within ±2%. For ease of maintenance, the boiling chamber of an SKG humidifier can be separated from the main unit, emptied of limescale and reattached in just a few minutes. The heating element has a spiral design which expands and contracts during operation to dislodge limescale from its surface to be collected in the boiling chamber. JS also supplied multi-steam short adsorption lances to ensure steam is absorbed by the air within a very short distance and does not condense on surrounding surfaces.
