Prefabricated boiler plant minimises downtime in sheltered housing

By installing this Potterton Paraskid boiler rig alongside existing plant in sheltered housing in Northumberland, downtime was limited to just half a day.
A downtime of just half a day was achieved when boiler plant serving the heating system in sheltered housing in Alnwick, Northumberland, was replaced. That feat was achieved using a Paraskid 120 condensing packaged boiler plant from Potterton Commercial to replace the previous plant. Percy Court is a Housing 21 social-housing development of 29 single-bedroom flats for elderly and disabled tenants with resident management. These 2-storey buildings have a communal laundry and guest facilities. The previous boiler was installed when the property was built in 1983 and required replacement for operational and economic reasons. In consultation with Potterton Commercial’s technical team, Housing 21’s technical surveyor selected the packaged plant, explaining, ‘We decided on the Paraskid solution to save downtime and minimise inconvenience to residents, whilst providing an economic solution which reduced Percy Court’s carbon footprint.’ The Paraskid was installed in the boiler room next to the existing plant, which was only decommissioned and removed after the new plant was operational. The complete project took four weeks, but the downtime was only half a day. The new plant comprises two Paramount boilers with a combined heat output of 15 to 119 kW. They achieve a gross efficiency of 88% at full load and 98% at part load. The rig includes sensors for weather compensation and room-temperature control.
