Variable-speed drives perform in all weathers

Alldales variable-speed drives have been fitted to the master extract system of the O2 leisure and entertainment venue in London. They were commissioned by building-automation consultant TAC Systems as part of an upgrade and refurbishment arising from the fitting of a new integrated Building Management System and bring to 16 the total number of inverter drives supplied by Alldales since the former Dome site reopened. As with the previous drives supplied for the two cooling towers, weather resistance was a key design consideration. The extract fans are on the vertical ‘spires’ at their junction with the domed fabric canopy and subject to a high degree of ambient moisture arising from their proximity to the River Thames. In extreme, rainwater may run through the fans.
