Carillion signs MoD sustainable procurement charter
Support services and construction company Carillion has signed up to the Ministry of Defence’s sustainable procurement charter. The charter was signed by Carillion chief executive John McDonough and chief executive of Defence Estates Vice Admiral Tim Laurence. The MoD defines sustainable procurement as a process whereby organisations meet their needs for goods, services, works and utilities in a way that achieves whole-life value for money in terms of generating benefits to society and the economy, while minimising damage to the environment. The sustainable procurement charter was originally developed by the MoD for use by its prime-contracting suppliers, but Carillion has extended it across all its MoD contracts. John McDonough says, ‘The MoD is Carillion’s biggest customer, and we have an order book of some £5 billion-worth of work over a period of 30 years.’
