Over 200 Miela-SG luminaires provide LG3a lighting in these new offices of London Underground.

Lighting that complies with the latest CIBSE LG3a guidelines is provided in new offices of London Underground by over 200 Miela-SG luminaires from RIDI Lighting. Located in London’s West End, the offices are laid out in a combination of open-plan and cellular office space. With limited daylight available, building-services consultant FHP required a luminaire to provide sufficient task lighting while controlling glare on computer screens. Jeff Cook of FHP says, ‘The Miela-SG was the perfect luminaire for this project. It offers the right proportions of up and downlighting and takes away all the black holes you normally associate with Cat2 schemes. Alongside this, you also get glare-free performance.’ These fittings incorporate a new type of parabolic, high-efficiency micro-louvre set within the primary reflector to increase the direct-light component. This feature helps achieve an enhanced performance compared with a traditional recessed luminaire. A reeded aluminium gull-wing reflector achieves a uniform spread of vertical illumination, glare-free performance and a high level of visual comfort. The latest versions have a variable control baffle to regulate the amount of upward light.
