Kentec reduces false fire alarms at Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Kentec Fire Alarms
A new fire-alarm system at Stoke Mandeville Hospital based on Kentec control panels has reduced false alarms by 80% in its first year.

False fire alarms at Stoke Mandeville Hospital have been reduced by 80% in the first year following the installation of a new system.

It is an open-protocol system consisting of 28 Kentec Syncro AS control panels and 5000 Hochiki devices, allowing seamless integration to a building-management system that provides fire-data intelligence for fire-alarm management at many levels. A major feature of the system is clarity of zone identification and provision for future expansion of this PFI development.

Working with the local NHS Trust and the hospital’s fire-safety advisor, Pyrotec Systems developed a fire-safety system that enables cause of an alarm signal to be investigated if only one smoke detector to confirm or cancel a 999 call — guaranteeing that an alarm call will be made in the event of a real fire. An alarm call is made immediately if more than smoke detector or a single heat detector or break-glass point is activated.
