Tricool enjoys surge in sales of free-cooling chillers

Tricool is experiencing a surge in sales of free-cooling chillers, which sales director Martin Storey puts down to 35%-plus increases in the cost of electricity. Martin Storey says, ‘Rises in electricity bills from 3.5 p/kWh to 5 p are encouraging more users to assess their energy consumption, with many opting to take advantages of the cost savings a free-cooling chiller can deliver.’ Free-cooling systems can be up to 30% more expensive than standard chillers, but payback periods can be surprisingly short. Savings of £20 000 a year, and a payback of less than 12 months can be achieved, with a total recovery of the cost of the chiller inside three years. These figures are based on 450 kW of cooling with water glycol at 15°C, electricity at 5 p/kWh and continuous operation. Tricool’s range of RO chillers offer up to 100% free cooling. There are single- and dual-circuit models from 150 to 1200 kW.
