New chillers use Turbocor compressor

Armstrong

Armstrong’s Quantum range of variable-speed chillers use Turbocor compressors and are claimed to have a lifetime cost 43% less than a traditional chiller over 10 years. The savings are mainly due to the high energy efficiency and very low maintenance requirements. Operation is also quiet and vibration free.

Turbocor centrifugal compressors have magnetic bearings and do not use oil, which might require changing or entail a risk of leakage.

The range includes water-cooled chillers from 200 to 2200 kW and air-cooled chillers from 200 to 1020 kW. There are three grades of energy efficiency — value, premium and premium+.

Digital monitoring of compressor operating conditions (including temperature, pressure, motor current and shaft speed) also contribute to long life and reliability. Being oil free means that thermodynamic performance remains much higher throughout the life of the chiller.
