JS air curtains keep out the Aberdeen winter
Aberdeen’s new £275 million Union Square shopping centre uses 20 air curtains from JS Air Curtains to keep out the severe winter weather in the north-east of Scotland. Three types of air curtain were installed by M&E contractor NG Bailey. JS Air Curtains worked with Bailey for six months to design and supply the systems. Work included producing technical diagrams showing each installation, CAD drawings and individual mounting brackets for four horizontally mounted units.
The 65 000 m2 development is one of the biggest city-centre regeneration schemes in Scotland. It has over 60 stores and restaurants, a 10-screen cinema and a 203-bedroom hotel.
Half of the air curtains are 2 m-long stainless-steel Rund units. They are installed vertically at the front and rear entrances to create an attractive series of architectural pillars. They are served by LPHW and can provide air at variable temperatures.
JS also supplied Finesse concealed units for use in suspended ceiling and Mini Optima air curtains.
Two 2 m Finesse units protect internal doorways, and four 1.5 m Mini Optima units are linked in a 6 m system to protect an entrance from a car park. They use LPHW.
The remaining four units are horizontally mounted 1.5 m Rund units mounted above doorways with stainless-steel mounting bracket.
All the air curtains are controlled via the centre’s BMS.
