Dynamic simulation software is approved for 2010 Building Regulations

Integrated Environmental Solutions’ VE-DSM 2010 software has been approved by DCLG as providing dynamic simulation Building Regulation compliance for all types of non-domestic building. Approval of the associated 2010 SAP and VE-SBEM software was underway as we went to press.

Dynamic simulation gives designers more flexibility than SBEM, especially with the stringent changes made in the 2010 Building Regulations. Tests are said to have shown that SBEM 2010 can limit designers to using expensive renewable-energy systems, whereas dynamic simulation enables designers to focus on real low-energy design issues, so more complex and sophisticate HVAC strategies can be modelled. The IES software includes systems wizards and the ability to link daylight, plant simulation, natural ventilation and solar shading in great detail.
