Organic heat-transfer fluid offers benefits over glycol

IDS Climalife has introduced an environmentally friendly heat-transfer fluid for heating, renewable-energy and refrigeration applications as an alternative to mono propylene glycol. Greenway is produced from a renewable vegetable resource, and its manufacturing process is said to produce 40% lower CO2 emissions and use 40% less energy. It includes organic long-lasting corrosion inhibitors.

Its viscosity is three times lower than mono propylene glycol, enabling smaller pumps to be used. At -10°C it uses three times less pump energy and 14 times less at -30°C. There are also benefits at high temperatures, such as a 4-times slower degradation rate in solar-thermal systems at 150°C.
