This Sanyo CO2 heat pump is being evaluated by the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.

Carbon dioxide is the refrigerant for a Sanyo air-source heat pump installed at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in Wales as part of its sustainable-technology programme. The system will be used to demonstrate the latest heat-pump technology in action as part of practical courses for visitors from the UK and the rest of the world.

The Eco CO2 system has an inverter-controlled compressor and is heating a building at the centre. It will be monitored to see how well it performs under a range of climatic and occupational conditions.

The heat pump has been donated by Sanyo and distributor Oceanair. Graham Wright of Sanyo tells us that there are several hundred Eco CO2 installations in the UK, ranging from modern homes to 16th-century priories and castles.
