Daikin’s largest chillers installed at London hotel

Meeting the planning constraints of Westminster City Council are three large Daikin Chillers supplied by Space Airconditioning for the InterContinental Hotel at Hyde Park Corner.
Strict planning constraints imposed by Westminster City Council for the InterContinental Hotel at Hyde Park Corner in London led to the installation of three large Daikin air-cooled chillers as part of a major services and upgrade programme. Supplied by Space Airconditioning, each EUWA 200MZ chiller has a cooling capacity of 575 kW. Their screw compressors will require overhauling only after about 4 1/2 years’ operation. The tight delivery schedule was challenged by gusting winds leading to the first two attempts to crane the chillers on to the hotel’s roof having to be aborted. They were successfully positioned at the third attempt. The chillers are controlled by Daikin’s Integrated Chiller Network system (DICN), which can communicate with the hotel’s BMS. The DICN system enables all three chillers to operate simultaneously, as if they were a single unit. Consulting engineers were McLellan & Partners, and the M&E contractor was Lorne Stewart. Space Airconditioning commissioned the chillers.
