Mitsubishi adds to the potential of heat pumps

Mitsubishi Electric’s range of Ecodan air-source heat pumps includes three split air-to-water systems with capacities of 4, 7.5 and 12 kW. They can be cascaded to deliver up to 72 kW of controllable heating, making them suitable for multi-use premises such as blocks of flats, light commercial situations and also bringing the possibility of renewable heating to larger homes.

The outdoor units are linked to an internal hydrobox by refrigerant piping, so all water piping and connections can be sited internally. The 12 kW unit can be up to 75 m from the hydrobox; the smaller units can be up to 40 m away.

All three models have been approved under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

Mitsubishi’s FTC-4 controller enables Ecodan units to be teamed up with a gas- or oil-fired boilers, with the controller deciding which equipment to operate based on running cost or CO2 emissions. This feature enables building operators with a working gas- or oil-fired system to meet renewable-energy targets.
